The association
FILIA is a civil association – nongovernment, nonchurch,
non-profit organisation with a humanitarian programme.
The name on its own means in Antient Greek “LOVE” and it should do justice to the programmeme filling of our association, which we couln´t really do without true love. We work in the humanitarian field and we are registered at MV ČR under the number II/S-OS/1-24212/94-R, 1994-8-4 as nonstate, non-profit making and nonchurch civil association. The subject of our activity is prescribed by the statute (its right wording you can verify in the supplement), as the appropriation of the IČO (INO) and permission of public subscription. The association has five regular members and variable base of assistants and employees.
The seat of our association is the office in
Kamenná čtvrť 111 (this office is provided by the association member K. Tůma
free of charge), in the district
We have financed our activity until today in diferent parts from state budget, from
budget of the town, from grants from some foundations, donations from
indiviuals or firms, member benefits, benefits from our own activity and
permitted public subscription.
The
correction of the leading of the accounting and raising of finances has
been many times checked by commissioned authorities.
The association helps the handicapped in different programmeme
ranges (see the leaflet), but we have great problems to find financial
security. Because we can´t count on state subvention (its possibilities are
year after year lower), we are urgently looking for a general sponsor and
other contributors for keeping all activities, that you can reed more about
in other texts. We hope, that you yourself conclude the opinion, that the
disappearance of all interesting and well working programmemes would be a loss

introduction of
our activities
The actions are closely connected to the programme of our day-cetre and
our club „KAMENKA“. Annually we organize
celebrations of Saint Nicolas day,
children´s day, concerts and performances
for our clients and for children of our district.
The actions are very popular because
we are in this respect the only
one in this district. This
our activity is contibuted of this point of view too, that Kamenná čtvrť
is closed isolated part of
Exept for our own days we put on perfomances at others actions too, for example in the medical institution for long-term-ill people, at Vyškov festival of production of the handicapped, at the childrenday in Brno, in the children´s home Vranov, at the Christmas platform, at fairs for the handicapped, at openings; on november 1998 we organized an advent concert in Janáček theatre etc.
The operation of the day centre is fluently
followed with the afternoon club activity, which is original for its ensuring
of collective programmes of the
handicapped and healthy children and youth all the year round. These programmes
are different from others (only seldom aplicated) integrative programmes of
others organizations. Especially because we don´t speak about separate actions
but we mean a systematical work. On the top of it, the organisers of the
integration are at us the handicapped, who invite members of the healthy
population to their community and create for them attractive programmes.
Acording to our information and to the public acceptance we are the only
establishment for the handicapped youth, that opened its doors to the
others. These our activity in the
As the day-cetre clients who stay here until
afternoon hours come healthy children from the
local district and take part in collective programmes. The favourites
are collective drammatic appearances in which a group of historical fencing of
the same district takes part too. The best estimated public appearances are
dramatized fairy-tales for the children of Brno, appearances at social actions
organized by us, at the christmas plattform of the Brno-city and at some
performances at concomitant programmes for the handicapped (REHAPROTEX, VITA
HUMANA, Days of the handicapped in Vyškov...). Healthy and handicapped children
make together musical-recital ranges, with them they appear at the medical
institutions for seniors and for children.
Besides these actions, the club operates as a
place, where local children can go after school and where on
every-day-programme is prepared (the plastic activities, understanding to
nature, visits of cultural actions, trips). Children´s homes (DD Vranov, ZvŠI Jílová)
are joined together in this club too, here goes especially about Romany
children with an institutional upbringing.
The club Kamenka has already been operating for
five years according of the interests of children. The integration of the
handicapped into the common children population works very good, children help
each other and the mutual positive influence is both-sided. We organize the day
trips for children too.
The material security is wide.
Personally- in the club leading parts
profesional children psychologist by conception and supervision, professional
artists, students from pedagogical faculty and other activity leaders help as
lecturers. One employee (the club
leader) is paid by the work office (we use financial sponsors gifts for duty
delivery).
It is established in generaly for the daily
attendance of twenty applied clients – handicapped young people (especialy
clients with a light psychiatric disorder, that needn´t medical supervision- under
ambulant care, appropriate with light
mental handicap). The stay here is determined for the interested persons who
have no duty of school attendance nor job at the moment.The programme contents
of the day-cetre is directed especially
for younger visitors. The field of the
care about psychiatric healed young people has been totally ignored by the
state up to now and our establishment provides the offer of filling the free
time for these clients. Without this offer, the psychiatric patients let into ambulant
care would get into social isolation and inactivity, which make getting their

Even though we aren´t a medical institution and
we provide social services, we closely cooperate with the surgeons of the
patients, it means with district psychiaric and with psychiatric clinics in
Bohunice and Černovice. Our accesss is appreciated outside of

Techniqueal ensurance:
We use a rented object with the capacity of ten
persons. We are porters of the property and we ensure its upkeeping. The
day-cetre management is ensured by the office of the association FILIA in the
same district. The association owns a
nine-seat-car Renault Traffic (made in 1985) to transport the clients. Regarding the age of the car we need to find sponsors
for the repairs and upkeeping because of the safety of transported persons.
(It would be ideal to buy a new car.) We use this car as a concomitant vehicle
for handicapped children at the curative stays as well. For the professional
lessons we use equipment of the book-binding workshop; the day-cetre is equipped
with a ceramic kiln and a potter´s wheel.
Personal ensurance:
The day-cetre management ensure a professional
psychologist, the lessons keep teachers with relevant qualification, we
cooperate with other ergotherapists and auxiliary activists – studentsof psychology,
special pedagogy and social branches. The day-cetre workers educate themselves
in their fieldscontinuously.
Other advantages:
Our clients have the possiblities of taking
part in the curative stays, that are organized by our association (Summer or
Winter). The day-cetre is used as a cultured and social centre for the
inhabitants of Kamenná čtvrť. The day-cetre activity is followed by various
clubs, that enable the integration of the handicapped itno the healthy
population.
Present experiences:
The day-cetre management has previous, of many years standing experiences at the work with children and youth, including the handicapped. Tha association FILIA have operated the day-cetre Kamenka since April 1995. In spite of very difficult conditionsof working, the establishment demonstrated its serviceablity and vitality.
The principle effect is keeping of acquired knowledge,
getting sipmle working skills, which enable the handicapped young people, that
hasn´t any other education except for the primary school or that didn´t find
any work possibilities, the social integration and assertion. These activities
are very demanding and contribute in the area of
The basic activity filling of the day-cetre is serving and
upbringing influence and trainingof
social situations and working skills at different, specially plastic, brunches and
needlework (we use artetherapy and ergotherapy). The main
work-upbringing consists of ceramic creation.We cooperate with a book-binding
workshop too, the clients prepare special material for it. We try to
get smaller work orders and market for
the products. Our clients find inspiration for their work by visiting many
culture establishments, expositions and by trips. Our clients practise various
social skills too. We apply pedagogical
influence leading to keeping of new gained knowledge. Keeping of good
physical condition during sport activities (swimming, rehabilitation
techniques, weight training etc.) is significant too. The important moment of
the psychorehabilitation is the posibility of getting warm meals, that we
supply from the student home. Our clients show their products at exhibitions
and competitions, they like putting on performances with dramatical or singing
ranges for the public.
The specific of our establishment is its family character
(people here don´t feel like at a medical institution or asylum home), the
number of clients, that can actively cooperate with the programme filling is
regulated. This modern access is according to the world trends and its
effectivity is confirmed through external research. Thanks to the right time
coordination of clients attendance succeed to keep optimal number of present
clients (max. 7), which enables us to have individual access and differented
work of pedagogues.
Every year we organize 3 – 4 holidays stays
(Winter and Sommer) for healthy and socialy handicapped children (children
from children´s homes, ettnic minorities). We organize these types of stays:
for children with various handicaps (visual, auditory, mental, autistic,
epileptics..)
For
cildren with cardial and rheumatic illnesses (with the help of a professional
medical and sanitary staff; the children absolve a classic camp programme as well as medical procedures and
rehabilitation techniques)
For
families with handicapped children (it could be in integration with healthy
brothers and sisters)
The majority of these stays are organized as integrative
, it means stimulating handicapped and social children and children from
common population to live together.
The camp has
We have ample material equipment and sport
techniques.
Personal assurence: Dr. Lacinová absolved several-days teach-in of head camp leaders of
curative stays for handicapped children and got the authorization to conduct
them. She underwent a seminar “Psychological services for handicapped children”
as well. She has many-years professional practise at work with children.
K. Tůma absolved some medical courses
for camp stays. These association mambers work free of charge at the camps, Mr.
Tůma in the time of his vacation. Every year we train for some months a team of
section leaders, mostly pedagogical students, students of special pedagogy,
psychology and medical faculty. In case of need we send them to special
courses. We have contracted the medical supervision with specialists and other necessary medical
staff.
Canistherapeutic stays of the handicapped
children

Our association members were first in our
republic, that became systematically and professionally interested in the
possibilities of using the curative
contact between children and dogs. They are authors of the term CANISTHERAPY,
that became familiar in our country as well as abroad. Our association takes
advantages from our (at the moment nine) sledge dogs – Alaskan Malamuts for
activity, that has mostly psychological as well as direct physiological
curative effect on the handicapped children.
The target group of all our programmes are:
1, Clients with physical or mental handicap (blind, deaf, cardiacs, rheumatics, psychiatric patients, mental reterded, autists, wheel chair bound etc.)
2, Children with a social handicapp (from
children´s homes, upbringing institutions, ettnic minorities( especially
Romany), disfunctional families etc.)
3, Families with handicapped children
4, Professional and lay public
Dr. Lacinová has developed her own methodics,
their originality lay in taking advantages of therapeutical interaction of a great group of dogs and a
great group of children. This method has no analogies in the world and excites
acceptance abroad too. It is used mostly at curative stays of handicapped
children. Dr. Lacinová informs about her methodics and other forms of
canistherapy at widest professional and lay platforms, she presents at many
domestic and international conferences and seminars. She herself organizes publicity
and educational actions to this theme. She is a member of five-membered
committee of Association of supporters of the relevant respect to little
animals (AOVZ) in
As a pioneer and competent professional in the
field of canistherapy Dr. Lacinová cooperates with our universities and other
schools by professional leading of the students interested in the canistherapy and writing works on this theme.
She contributed to the development of the activity of Canistherapeutical
society
The canistherapeutic events proceeded last
years under our foundation “Přítel” (Friend), but this foundation had to be
cancelled in 1998 because of new conditions of the foundation act (we didn´t
reach the prescribed foundation property).
We apply our way of canistherapy mostly at
curative stays.
The resulting effect of canistherapy for its
participants is for example improvment of the quality of communication,
removing of the agressive manifestations to the animals and to themselves
mutually, reduction or removing of the kynophobia, improving of emotionality
and understanding to the animals and nature, extending of their attention span,
satisfaction of the need of tenderness, the inception and entertaining of
responsiblity to other creatures, the upbringing to the right social behaviour,
establishing of self-sufficiency skills, the intensifying of independence,
developing of parental attitudes, developing of motorical skills, stimulation
to intensifying of the mobility and rehabilitation by the natural training at
playing with dogs, developing of fancy, reducing of diffidence and reserve,
support of spontaneous manifestation,
intensifying of nonverbal communication
skills, developing of expressive skills and increasing of vocabulary,
developing of creative expression, reducing of the manifestations of autism,
diverting of the attention from own difficulties, raising of self-confidence,
better balancing with own handicap, train of gently motorics by stroking and
nursing of a dogs, the integration of
individual groups.
For the contribution for the group of cardiacs,
we go out the results of the world scientific researches, which confirm the
right healthy profit from the contact between a dogs and a cardiac-patient(
lower the blood pressure, reducing of the arythm, normalization of the function
of blood circulation, lower the posibility of heart attacks). At the patients
with revmatism it is natural and pleasant rehabilitation through the stroking
and caressing, that intensifies the mobility of handicapped limbs.
We provide consultancy, lectures, seminars,
short term attachment, briefings, special literature, leading of absolventary
works for professional and lay public.
We undertake
occasional visits at institutions or other curative stays, for that we
have created a one-day or weekend programme. This is different from the “visiting programme”,
that is used in the world and partial in our country.
Dr. Lacinová has partially created her own
methodics for training blind children for the future posibility of a common
life with a guiding dog too, and in 1994 – 1995 she succesfully used them at
the whole-year didactic programme at grammar school for the blind and
weak-sighted in
During previous years the association members
tested new forms of sport activities for the handicapped, especially for
the paraplegics (ride on special buggy puyed by dogs) and blind ski-runners
(cross country skiers with a dog attached).
The success of our methods guides sometimes
to imitations, unfortunately usually not
at required quality. This would be prevented by the establishment of a
training centre for persons interested in the field of canistherapy. Our
knowledge about canistherapy are often used by the mediums for their
programmemes.
But the most conclusive is our participation at
our canistherapeutic actions. Very instructive is to watchour
